Challacombe Farm, in the heart of Dartmoor National Park, is a working hill farm, set in a valley that has been farmed more or less continuously for around 4000 years. This has left a rich legacy of archaeological remains, many of which are easily seen.

Following many years of sympathetic management the farm is also a haven for wildlife, particularly birds, and in recognition of this, we have twice won a Duke of Cornwall Habitat award.

Responsible walkers, horse-riders and cyclists are welcome to use the network of paths that cross the farm, and some of these have been recently improved to make them easier to use for people with mobility problems, mobility scooters and push chairs.

This website aims to help people enjoy their visit to Challacombe Farm and find out more about what they can see and do.

For images of the easy going walk from the farm to the Warren House Inn, that is suitable for people with prams and 'rugged' mobility scooters click here. It is best viewed by clicking on the 'satellite' button on the map and then clicking on each photo.

The Tibetian Flag Way

If you are passing Challacombe in late October 2011 you will probably spot a dozen Tibetian flags on top of Challacombe Down. These are the work of German artist, Christain Elster's land art installation 'The innermost at the outermost', which he kindly left with us following doing a larger display on the Lizard in Cornwall. You can find out more about his work and previous installations on his website.

The Annual Challacombe Pleasure Ride and Dog Walk

We would like to thank everyone came along to our event. We raised £704.83 for The Brooke, an international animal welfare organisation dedicated to improving the lives of working horses, donkeys and mules in some of the world's poorest communities.

We will be running it again on the 2012 August Bank holiday Sunday, and will are already planning different (but equally scenic) routes for you to do. If you would like to be emailed more details, drop us an email and we'll add you to our mailing list.

We would appreciate any comments on the website, or if you have any questions you'd like to ask us - please email
